1. Focus on what you have gained and not on what you have lost per example:
(Make a list and place it on your fridge or cupboard)
GAINED:
- Freedom
- More peace
- Reduced walking on eggshells
- Not subject to the negative moods of the Narcissist or Toxic person
- Increased health
- Enhanced sleep
- Room for personal growth
- An opportunity to be the authentic and creative you
- Freedom of choices of friends, clothes, hobbies, food, and entertainment
- Criticism is minimized
- No more regular exposure to stonewalling or contempt
- Possible new career
2. Spend time with a nice cup of coffee and focus on your future
dreams for example:
- Your dream job/business
- Hobbies you would like to spend time on
- The financial position you would like to grow to and how
- How you can grow closer to God
- The groups and activities you would like to join
- Places you would like to see in the country and abroad
- To become a fully healed and flourishing person again and to plan to get help with life coaching or therapy
3. Make an SOS list for the moments you are feeling down:
- Make a list of people that you can call for a chat in times of need for encouragement.
- Pray and listen to worship music
- Go for a walk and play upbeat music
- Have a movie or good book ready
- Change the scenery and go out and have a coffee and watch people or nature
- Be part of a charity group where you can assist at any time and help others, always a good antidote!
- Have fixed activities in your week until you have eased into your new life.
